The Charing Cross Centre is launched

The Charing Cross Centre, Norwich was launched in 1965, by the former Norwich Education Committee of the Norwich City Council as the "Three C's" coffee bar for young people which then closed in 1973. Following local government reorganisation in 1974 the building passed to Norfolk County Council and was re-opened as a centre for organisations caring in and for the community.

Those early years were a struggle with funds hard to raise.  A building fund was established by the trustees and in 1982, with the help of Norfolk County Council, a major reconstruction programme was carried out to provide purpose built accommodation on the first floor. The Centre is proud to record that several voluntary groups began their life here.

Recent developments

In 1994 a second floor of rooms was added by converting unused loft space and general access was improved with the installation of a lift to the first floor. In March 1999 the Trustees successfully negotiated the purchase of the freehold from Norfolk County Council.

The Charing Cross Centre is an ideally situated venue in the middle of Norwich for conferences, meetings, training courses or seminars.
