Norwich Charity looks to counter 22% Funding Loss

The Charing Cross Centre, a charitable organisation based in the heart of Norwich, is launching a new version of their website
The website relaunch, which takes places on August 8th, is hoped to bring more attention to the organisation’s Room Hiring service which the centre hopes will help them fill a 22% reduction in their yearly funding.

Nigel Christian, Charing Cross Centre Manager, said:

It was a huge blow to lose our funding. We have done a great deal for our residents and hirers, some of whom are in a similar situation, as well as maintain a large, old building.
It has left us in a situation where to keep in a break even position will be virtually impossible, but we will endeavour to meet the needs of our hirers and residents”

The centre, which can trace its roots back to the 1960′s, is based at St John Maddermarket in Norwich City centre and provides Room Hire for Events, Conferences and those seeking a Meeting room or Office space.

The revenue generated helps the centre maintain the building, which dates back to the 1500, where it is believed it was the home of John Marsham, Mayor of Norwich in 1518.

The centre is also home to a wide range of third sector organisations including: Alzheimer’s Society, Indigo Dyslexia Centre, Norfolk Carers Support and Norfolk Youth Projects.

Commenting as a tenant organisation, Indigo Dyslexia Centre’s CEO Martin Parsonage said;

The Indigo Dyslexia Centre has always found the Charing Cross Centre to be a warm and friendly environment for the development of it as a social enterprise.
Over the years Indigo Dyslexia has rented many rooms and offices throughout the centre and has always found the centre to be the perfect venue for it’s needs inside the voluntary sector.
Charing Cross Centre has a long history of supporting charities and voluntary sector agencies and has always been here for Indigo.”

The centre is proud of its ability to provide a home for such a wide range of organisations who make such a difference to the people of Norwich and across Norfolk and has seen a number of well known organisations, such as Voluntary Norfolk, start life in its rooms.

With the new focussed promotion of their Room Hire, The Charing Cross Centre hopes it can find a way to generate enough income to cover the reduction in its funding, which has seen nearly a 1/4 drop in the income they receive yearly, and allow them to continue with providing such a necessary service to those organisations using it’s rooms, supporting young people across the county, as well as maintaining such a historical building within the heart of Norwich.
